BEST OF 2017 – MAKE-UP PRODUCTS

Hi all! Just stopping by to share with you a list of all my absolute favourite products of 2017. 2017 was an amazing year for make-up and I’ve definitely found some of my all-time holy grail lifelong favourites, and I’m so excited and chuffed that I was able to share the bulk of them with you over the course of this year on my blog. For that reason, I’m not going to write a long paragraph about each product – I’d love for you to look back at some of my other blog posts from the year (and if you’ve been reading my blog, you will probably be able to guess the bulk of these!) and learn more, and maybe find something new to try! And to everyone who has read my posts, liked, commented or anything – thanks so much, I love and appreciate you so much, and thanks for reading, you da best xoxox

PS – some of these products might not actually be from 2017, but I discovered them this year and have used them consistently throughout.

Top 10 Make-Up Items Under £10!

As a make-up collector and hoarder, I have so many products from all different price ranges – the good, the bad and the ugly. And I think when you’ve been doing make-up for a long time you can run the risk of becoming a bit snobby, almost, which is definitely something I have been guilty of in the past. Most days I find that I do use almost exclusively high-end products, but I do have my affordable gems that I consistently reach for and repurchase again and again. So let’s talk about them!

L’Oreal True Match Foundation (£9.99, buy here)

IMG_5108.JPG

I have gone through three bottles of this foundation in the space of a year because it is one of my absolute favourite base products of all time. Dewy, lightweight, long-lasting, affordable and a perfect shade for me, and it’s my go-to to mix with foundations that are a touch too matte or that are difficult to work with. I have harped on about how much I love this foundation a thousand times on this blog, but I couldn’t do a post like this and not drop my favourite foundation from the drugstore in here!

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer (£7.99, buy here)

IMG_5110.JPG

Now I have only been using this concealer for around three weeks, which doesn’t seem like a long enough time to form this much of an attachment to it, but we’re definitely already in a committed relationship and you can expect to receive wedding invitations in the most in the near future. This is hands down the best affordable concealer I have ever ever used – it’s glowy, it doesn’t crease on me, the coverage is beautiful and makes my undereye look flawless, and it never looks cakey at the end of the day. I like this better than my Nars Radiant Creamy concealer and would actually repurchase this one over that one… yep, I know. I went there and I mean it.

(I hadn’t realised until I went to link the product that there are only three shades, which is appalling, but if you’re super fair the lightest shade will work wonderfully for you. If you’re a little darker you might want to swatch the shades in store to make sure they work.)

Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara (£7.99, buy here)

IMG_5124.JPG

I have tried Marc Jacobs mascaras, Too Faced mascaras, Tarte mascaras, Make Up Forever mascaras, Benefit mascaras… and yet this trumps them all. I love how black this is, I love how long-lasting this is, I love how it doesn’t smudge on my bottom lashline, I love that it doesn’t flake off during the day, I love how easy it is to apply on both my top and bottom lashes, I love that it gets better with age, and the list goes on. This is hands down one of the best mascaras I have ever tried and I can’t believe how affordable it is. You need to pick this up if you haven’t already.

MUA (Make-Up Academy) Burning Embers Palette (£8, buy here)

IMG_5107.JPG

We all know I love any kind of warm-toned palette, but this one really is something special. 25 beautiful shadows and a good mix of mattes and shimmers for only £8, and even though they’re not exactly Anastasia quality, this is a bloody good alternative to the Modern Renaissance palette if you’re ballin’ on a budget. Some of the colours in this are so unique and you can create a crazy number of looks with this, warm and cool, day and night, soft or grungy. The only thing I don’t love is the packaging, but for £8 I can’t complain that much.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams (£6, buy here)

IMG_5118.JPG

I don’t typically love a liquid lipstick because I don’t like the way they feel on my lips, but these are a giant exception to the rule. These are so comfortable and soft, like the name suggests, and the colour range they have is large and brilliant for such an affordable product. The lasting power is not ideal if you’re eating or drinking, but I am happy to reapply them as often as needed because I do favour comfort over longevity when it comes to lip products. My favourite is the shade London (left) but I also reach for Cannes (middle) and Amsterdamn (right) all the time.

Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Filler (£7.99, buy here)

IMG_5123.JPG

I have very sparse brows and I struggle to find a tinted brow gel that actually fills in the gaps without flaking off or looking too crispy – but this… this is probably my favourite brow gel of all time, and that’s saying a lot from someone who has two full drawers full of eyebrow products. But the thing I love about this brow gel is how little product you need for such a high impact. The brush is flat which makes it really easy to work into the hairs and really pack them full of fibers, but also easy to brush out any areas that are too clumpy. A tube of this will easily last me six months, and it’s one of those products that I purchased in a darker shade the same day I dyed my hair darker, which is when you know the obsession is real.

NYX Prismatic Eyeshadows (£5.50 each, buy here)

IMG_5112.JPG

These eyeshadows perform incredible, more incredible than some higher priced shadows that I own. They are so crazy pigmented and apply beautifully wet or dry, with a finger or a brush, and the colour translates as bright as it is in the pan, which I don’t find as often as I like in lower priced shadows. They don’t flake or crumble and they are crazy long-wearing, and all in all if you’re looking for fun colours to experiment with every now and then but don’t want to commit to a palette, these are an amazing option! My two faves are these – Mermaid (an amazing teal green) and Girl Talk (a beautiful opalescent pink).

KIKO 3D Hydra Lip Gloss (£7.90, buy here)

IMG_5114.JPG

These are, quite frankly, the best lip glosses I have ever tried. I can’t find my nude ones for some reason but this red gloss is my all-time fave red, a beautiful fire tone that works with so many of my favourite red lipsticks. The formula is long-lasting, hydrating, and it doesn’t get stuck in your hair, which is basically my deciding factor in whether I like a gloss or not. I could happily wear this lip gloss formula every single time I opt for a glossy lip and never be mad at it.

Sleek Blushes (£4.99 each, buy here)

IMG_5120

I’m just going to come out and say it – Rose Gold by Sleek is an exact dupe for NARS’ Orgasm blush colour-wise, and is even better formula-wise. These blushes are bulletproof and look exactly the same in the evening as they do when first applied, and the colour selection is wide with something for every skin tone. They have muted colours, bright colours, fun colours – pretty much everything you could ever want, and my favourite is probably Suede, which is a lovely browny-nude that works with every single make-up look. I reach for these day in, day out, and I really want to grab some more shades.

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Glow Palette (£8, buy here)

IMG_5127

Makeup Revolution aren’t exactly subtle when it comes for their duping of products, and this is, essentially, almost a carbon copy of the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow. And you know what? For £8 it is a bloody good dupe, with a beautiful bronzer and a blinding highlight. I’ve actually been reaching for this more than my CT one recently, and that is… well, unheard of for me, frankly. It’s a creamy formula which blends like a dream even on unset foundation (and with my mega-dry skin this time of year, that’s a big factor for me) and I am OBSESSED.

My Top Five Highlighters In The Whole World!

Hi all! Today I wanted to come at you with something short and sweet and very close to my heart – my all-time favourite highlighters. I have two drawers full of the things and I’ve tried so, so many over the past few years, but I really think I have a good solid list of amazing ones that work well for me every single time and give me that ever-coveted glow, without looking overly fake or glittery. So let’s get cracking!

(None of these are going to surprise you if you’ve ever read any post on this blog ever.)

Number 5: Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighters in Trophy Wife and Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal (£26 each, buy here)

IMG_5099

These were only released a few months back but they have become firm favourites in my collection, and when the beauty world went mad for them it was absolutely, justifiably so. The colours are beautiful and unique, and the formula is so buttery smooth and lasts so well on the cheeks, because there’s nothing I hate more than a highlighter that fades super fast. One of my favourite looks ever is Trophy Wife on the inner corners of my eyes, because it takes your look just an extra step up. The pan sizes are generous, the packaging is beautiful, and I can’t fault them in any way. I would highly recommend picking one up, and with her decent shade range I’m sure you’ll find one perfect for you.

Number 4: Colourpop Super Shock Cheek in Flexitarian ($8, buy here)

IMG_5097

This is without a doubt my favourite cream highlighter that I’ve ever tried and it is very well loved, so much so that I’ve hit pan and the Colourpop logo has completely come off. But I cannot fault anything about this – the colour is insanely beautiful and it works amazingly as a glue for any powders you blend on top. It’s also blindingly bright, but because it’s a creamier formula it doesn’t look dry or overly glittery on the skin. It gives your cheekbones a glossy wet look, and it’s an absolute staple for me on nights out or long make-up days. When I run out of this I will absolutely order it again, custom fees be damned.

Number 3: OFRA x NikkieTutorials Highlighter in Everglow (£44 for the full collection, buy here)

IMG_5103.JPG

Queen Nikkie did not come to play with this product! There are three shades in the pan, which makes it hugely versatile, and mixing the light and the medium together is my favourite way to wear it. I also love to wear the copper shade as an eyeshadow, which makes this a great item for a night out or an event because you have everything all in one place. And again, it is absolutely blinding but in a glossy, wet look way, which considering it’s a powder product is exceptional. I really want to try more highlighters from OFRA, but the only thing that puts me off is the packaging – it’s rather flimsy and I’ve heard horror stories about them breaking in transit. But I’ve put a couple on my Christmas list…

Number 2: BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfecter in Champagne Pop (£32, buy here)

IMG_5098.JPG

This and my number one were tied for a while as I mulled over this post, but this is in second place purely because it’s super fragile and this wouldn’t even cross my mind for travel, whereas my number one would. However, aside from that I cannot fault this highlighter in any other way. I love the undertone of this highlighter so much and I do mix it with a lot of others because I think it works perfectly on my skin, and it helps others to not emphasise my acne or texture, which I often need. I love the formula of BECCA highlighters and I love the longevity of them, and it’s just been an absolute staple in my collection for years. I will repurchase when I inevitably use it up.

Number 1: MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Doublegleam (£24.50, buy here)

IMG_5105

When I ordered this I didn’t think much of it, I thought it was just going to be another highlighter for my collection to try out, but this quickly climbed through the ranks and became my favourite without me even realising. This is the only highlighter I took to Australia with me and I can’t imagine not wearing it regularly anymore because it is just so good – it’s another wet-look highlighter (can you tell I have a type?) which is long-lasting, soft but can really be built up to a blinding glow, and I feel like I’ve barely made a dent in it despite how regularly I use it, which is always a bonus. I can’t fault this product in any way and it is absolutely my number one favourite highlighter in my collection.

(I also want to make a special shoutout to the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Celestial and Moonlight – I use those more in my skincare or foundation for an all-over glow, but they are an all-time fave!)

Feel free to let me know your favourite highlighters in the comments below – are there any I should try? Any that you think should be on this list? Thanks for reading, you da best xoxox

My Top Ten Favourite Make-Up Products – Sentimental Make-Up Items

We all have them – the make-up products we barely reach for, but we can’t seem to get rid of because we used to love them or they hold a special place in our hearts. We also have the products that we love so much that they give us that happy, warm feeling inside when we think about using them and having just a fabulous make-up day because of them. Here are mine!

In no particular order:

  • Product: PUR Cosmetics Glow Together Matte-Shimmer Bronzer – £24
  • Limited Edition?: Well, I thought it was…
  • Still available?: YES!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is one of the first products I ever bought for myself that I really, really fell in love with in my collection, and made me realise that doing your make-up doesn’t feel like a chore when you’re applying products you truly love. I bought it on a bit of a whim from Beauty Bay and it became one of those items that made me realise that yes, I am actually good at make-up, because every time I apply this it looks amazing and flawless and beautiful, and it’s something I reach for often before I know it’ll always work. It’s huge, it’s battered, it’s loved and it’s not that exciting, really, why I love this, but it’s something I will never part with.

They get more interesting than this, I promise.

IMG_4925.JPG

  • Product: MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle – £24.50
  • Limited Edition?: Nope, an oldie but a goodie!
  • Still available?: Yes!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is, quite simply, the first highlighter I ever bought. It changed my make-up game, but also the style in which I did my make-up. I remember watching a YouTube video with Jaclyn Hill about three years ago talking about highlighters (before the highlighting craze even took off) and I decided then and there that this was something I wanted in my life, then three years and hundreds of pounds later I can safely say that it’s an addiction, and something I don’t see myself stopping any time soon! I don’t really use it anymore, but again it’s something I’m never gonna part with.
  • Product: Marc Jacobs LoveMarc Love Gel Lipstick in Surrender Dorothy
  • Limited Edition?: No, but…
  • Still available?: NOPE, DISCONTINUED! 😦
  • Why it’s my favourite: This was the first thing I ever bought from Sephora, and slowly but surely became my all time favourite lipstick. Everything from the shade to the formula to the luxurious, sleek packaging – it’s everything I love and more, and I am so MAD that it’s been discontinued. This might be part of the reason I’m so attached to it, but I still do wear it regularly and will be absolutely heartbroken when it runs out.
  • Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette – £41
  • Limited Edition?: No, thank GOD.
  • Still available?: Yes, and if they ever discontinue this there will be hell to pay!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is my all-time favourite eyeshadow palette, ever ever ever, and this is definitely a palette I will repurchase when I use up all my favourite shades, which is a very real possibility. But more than that, it became such a popular palette on YouTube and so many tutorials came out of it, and honestly I think it’s the palette that really helped me learn the logistics of eyeshadow – how to blend, how to layer and create a cut crease and how to take a look from daytime to nighttime. I think it says a lot if you use a palette so much you consider buying a second, and that’s definitely how I feel with this.

IMG_4915

  • Product: Benefit Galifornia Blusher – £24.50
  • Limited Edition?: Nope!
  • Still available?: Yes!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is my favourite blush ever ever ever, as anyone who has ever been on this blog knows, but it’s also the only blush I took with me when I went to Australia this summer, and its lovely summery scent brings me right back to being in a shitty hostel in Brisbane, having the best time of my life.
  • Product: Becca Cosmetics X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Face Palette
  • Limited Edition?: Yep 😦
  • Still available?: Nope!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is another of those products that’s just a pleasure to use – it feels expensive and luxurious, and it contains one of my all-time favourite highlighters and two of my favourite blushes, two products I can see myself wearing on occasions like my wedding day and the specialist of special occasions. It’s the kind of palette I hope to display on a dressing table one day, and I wish I used it more but I’m so scared to hit pan or make dents in these products, even though I’m not even close.

IMG_4922.JPG

  • Product: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – £40
  • Limited Edition?: Nope!
  • Still available?: Yep!
  • Why it’s my favourite: When I discovered this, I was having a lot of skin issues but this foundation made me realise that a) I was wearing the wrong foundations for my skin type and b) it was still possible for my skin to look good even when I was having the worst acne of my life and texture and flaky dry patches that never seem to went away. Again, this is a real contender for the foundation I’ll wear on my wedding day, and if you feel that way about a product… well, I think that’s a pretty bloody amazing thing.
  • Product: Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Multifinish Eyeshadow Palette in The Night Owl
  • Limited Edition?: No, but…
  • Still available?: NO, because everything I come to love always gets discontinued!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is the first luxury make-up item I ever bought for myself. Looking at it, it’s not a very typically me palette, but it’s mine and I bought it and I loved it so much at the time, and I still love it now even though I only use one or two of the colours every now and again. I’ve thought about passing it on multiple times, just because I never get enough use out of it for how much it cost me, but I can’t bring myself to do it and I don’t think I ever will.
  • Product: Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow – £49
  • Limited Edition?: Nope!
  • Still available?: Yep!
  • Why it’s my favourite: For years I was contouring wrong and very badly, but this product really taught me how to do it, with its soft and blendable formula and a colour that’s pretty spot on for my pale skin. It is, again, quite an expensive and luxurious product, but most things on this list are and for good reason. It was also a present that I bought for myself getting one of my previous jobs, the job that I was proudest of getting out of all my jobs. I’m super close to hitting pan, and I will probably repurchase when it’s through.
  • Product: MAC Soft Serve Shadow in Best Make Up – £16
  • Limited Edition?: Yes 😦
  • Still available?: Some shades are here and there
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is another of those wedding make-up items, because it truly is the most beautiful champagne-silver cream shadow. It’s long-lasting, it doesn’t crease on me, and I wear it to all special events because it makes my eyes look super green and super soft and beautiful. I am so mad it got discontinued because this is an amazing formula, and I’m hoping and praying that MAC brings them back one day!
