My Top Ten Favourite Make-Up Products – Sentimental Make-Up Items

We all have them – the make-up products we barely reach for, but we can’t seem to get rid of because we used to love them or they hold a special place in our hearts. We also have the products that we love so much that they give us that happy, warm feeling inside when we think about using them and having just a fabulous make-up day because of them. Here are mine!

In no particular order:

  • Product: PUR Cosmetics Glow Together Matte-Shimmer Bronzer – £24
  • Limited Edition?: Well, I thought it was…
  • Still available?: YES!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is one of the first products I ever bought for myself that I really, really fell in love with in my collection, and made me realise that doing your make-up doesn’t feel like a chore when you’re applying products you truly love. I bought it on a bit of a whim from Beauty Bay and it became one of those items that made me realise that yes, I am actually good at make-up, because every time I apply this it looks amazing and flawless and beautiful, and it’s something I reach for often before I know it’ll always work. It’s huge, it’s battered, it’s loved and it’s not that exciting, really, why I love this, but it’s something I will never part with.

They get more interesting than this, I promise.

  • Product: MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle – £24.50
  • Limited Edition?: Nope, an oldie but a goodie!
  • Still available?: Yes!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is, quite simply, the first highlighter I ever bought. It changed my make-up game, but also the style in which I did my make-up. I remember watching a YouTube video with Jaclyn Hill about three years ago talking about highlighters (before the highlighting craze even took off) and I decided then and there that this was something I wanted in my life, then three years and hundreds of pounds later I can safely say that it’s an addiction, and something I don’t see myself stopping any time soon! I don’t really use it anymore, but again it’s something I’m never gonna part with.
  • Product: Marc Jacobs LoveMarc Love Gel Lipstick in Surrender Dorothy
  • Limited Edition?: No, but…
  • Still available?: NOPE, DISCONTINUED! 😦
  • Why it’s my favourite: This was the first thing I ever bought from Sephora, and slowly but surely became my all time favourite lipstick. Everything from the shade to the formula to the luxurious, sleek packaging – it’s everything I love and more, and I am so MAD that it’s been discontinued. This might be part of the reason I’m so attached to it, but I still do wear it regularly and will be absolutely heartbroken when it runs out.
  • Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette – £41
  • Limited Edition?: No, thank GOD.
  • Still available?: Yes, and if they ever discontinue this there will be hell to pay!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is my all-time favourite eyeshadow palette, ever ever ever, and this is definitely a palette I will repurchase when I use up all my favourite shades, which is a very real possibility. But more than that, it became such a popular palette on YouTube and so many tutorials came out of it, and honestly I think it’s the palette that really helped me learn the logistics of eyeshadow – how to blend, how to layer and create a cut crease and how to take a look from daytime to nighttime. I think it says a lot if you use a palette so much you consider buying a second, and that’s definitely how I feel with this.

  • Product: Benefit Galifornia Blusher – £24.50
  • Limited Edition?: Nope!
  • Still available?: Yes!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is my favourite blush ever ever ever, as anyone who has ever been on this blog knows, but it’s also the only blush I took with me when I went to Australia this summer, and its lovely summery scent brings me right back to being in a shitty hostel in Brisbane, having the best time of my life.
  • Product: Becca Cosmetics X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Face Palette
  • Limited Edition?: Yep 😦
  • Still available?: Nope!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is another of those products that’s just a pleasure to use – it feels expensive and luxurious, and it contains one of my all-time favourite highlighters and two of my favourite blushes, two products I can see myself wearing on occasions like my wedding day and the specialist of special occasions. It’s the kind of palette I hope to display on a dressing table one day, and I wish I used it more but I’m so scared to hit pan or make dents in these products, even though I’m not even close.

  • Product: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – £40
  • Limited Edition?: Nope!
  • Still available?: Yep!
  • Why it’s my favourite: When I discovered this, I was having a lot of skin issues but this foundation made me realise that a) I was wearing the wrong foundations for my skin type and b) it was still possible for my skin to look good even when I was having the worst acne of my life and texture and flaky dry patches that never seem to went away. Again, this is a real contender for the foundation I’ll wear on my wedding day, and if you feel that way about a product… well, I think that’s a pretty bloody amazing thing.
  • Product: Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Multifinish Eyeshadow Palette in The Night Owl
  • Limited Edition?: No, but…
  • Still available?: NO, because everything I come to love always gets discontinued!
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is the first luxury make-up item I ever bought for myself. Looking at it, it’s not a very typically me palette, but it’s mine and I bought it and I loved it so much at the time, and I still love it now even though I only use one or two of the colours every now and again. I’ve thought about passing it on multiple times, just because I never get enough use out of it for how much it cost me, but I can’t bring myself to do it and I don’t think I ever will.
  • Product: Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow – £49
  • Limited Edition?: Nope!
  • Still available?: Yep!
  • Why it’s my favourite: For years I was contouring wrong and very badly, but this product really taught me how to do it, with its soft and blendable formula and a colour that’s pretty spot on for my pale skin. It is, again, quite an expensive and luxurious product, but most things on this list are and for good reason. It was also a present that I bought for myself getting one of my previous jobs, the job that I was proudest of getting out of all my jobs. I’m super close to hitting pan, and I will probably repurchase when it’s through.
  • Product: MAC Soft Serve Shadow in Best Make Up – £16
  • Limited Edition?: Yes 😦
  • Still available?: Some shades are here and there
  • Why it’s my favourite: This is another of those wedding make-up items, because it truly is the most beautiful champagne-silver cream shadow. It’s long-lasting, it doesn’t crease on me, and I wear it to all special events because it makes my eyes look super green and super soft and beautiful. I am so mad it got discontinued because this is an amazing formula, and I’m hoping and praying that MAC brings them back one day!
