Hi all! I hope you’re having a great week so far. Hump day is never fun, but make-up is always fun, so I thought I’d post a short n’ sweet list of some of the products I’ve been obsessing over this month. We’ve got mostly make-up (obviously) but there’s a perfume, a brush, and a lip balm in there (variety is the spice of life), so hopefully there will be something for everyone. Enjoy!
Stila Stay All Day Contouring Bronzer for Face & Body (£28, buy here)
I picked this up on a bit of a whim – I’d seen a couple of people on YouTube mention this, but I didn’t really have high expectations when it came in the post, but I freakin’ love this. It’s quite warm so it doesn’t look like the most natural contour, especially on paler skin tones, but grab yourself a giant brush and dust this over the outer perimeters of your face and you have something rather beautiful. It’s not too pigmented, which I quite like in a bronzer because then it doesn’t look muddy at all, and it can be built up plenty but it’ll still blend into the rest of your make-up wonderfully. It’s become my quick and easy bronzer, and throwing it on with my MAC 135 brush is a joyous step in my day to day routine. It’s a giant pan too, so I’ll never be without it. BEAUTIFUL.
Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base (£40, buy here)
I’ve been having some skin issues over the past month – I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of the temperamental weather, my Christmas eating habits, and the fact that I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a day in December I didn’t have a drink – but as a result make-up isn’t sitting as nicely on my skin as it usually does. I’d picked this up last year and I was using it occasionally, but now I use it before any make-up touches my face, without fail. It’s super rich feeling without feeling heavy or oily, and it smooths out the skin for really nice make-up application. I then put my primers on top (you’ll see which below), and my skin looks so much better than it has been for months. I’m about halfway through the pot already, and I sure as heck will be picking up another before I run out.
Estee Lauder Modern Muse Nuit Eau de Parfum (£70 for 50ml, buy here)
I feel like such an adult when I spritz myself with this. It’s definitely the most mature scent I’ve ever owned – bearing in mind for the past couple of years I’ve mostly been wearing the Little Mix scent, which is still a fave – and it’s definitely more of an evening fragrance, but one whiff of this in Boots and I had to pop it top of my Christmas list. The notes include rum, jasmine, and amber, and it’s musky and feminine and beautiful. I immediately feel set to be one sexy mofo when I spritz myself with it. I’ve used it a lot and I’ve barely made a dent too, which is lovely considering its hefty price tag. But it’s definitely close to the top of my list, and probably my favourite scent I have ever owned.
Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita eyeshadow quad (£38, buy here)
Sometimes there’s such a thing as owning too many eyeshadows. I definitely own too many eyeshadows, and because of that I’ll grab a palette in the mornings and fall into the trap of using six shadows to create a relatively simple look when I don’t need to, and then it can be messy or too much or it won’t blend the way you want it to. And I was very guilty of ignoring ‘less is more’ when it comes to make-up, but this palette has been a game-changer for me this month. With this… well, I think it’s impossible to create a bad look with this palette. There are so many looks in these four simple eyeshadows, but my personal fave has been throwing the red all over the lid and then blending it out with the lightest colour – simple yet effective. It’s the only eyeshadow palette I’m taking when I go to Berlin next week, because frankly it’s all I need. Yes, it’s an investment piece but it feels luxurious and it’s just lovely to have. A pay day treat worth picking up, for sure.
Real Techniques MultiTech Extra Large Point Make-Up Brush (£17.99, buy here)
I touched on this briefly in my previous post (a full face of first impressions) and I mentioned I’d picked this up to use with my new BECCA powder. The new powder is a bit meh but this brush is bloody fab. It’s huge and it’s tapered, which is something I’ve been looking for for ages, and it just disperses loose powder so brilliantly. You can do so much with it and the big selling point of this new line is that it can be used for so many different things, and I’m really looking forward to using it with bronzer in the summer. The only downside I have is the price point of this new line – it’s a Superdrug exclusive and it’s hecka expensive for drugstore pricing/demographic, but big beauty fans out there and going to love it.
BareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer (£23, buy here)
I picked this up on a bit of a whim in the Boxing Day sales – it was half price in Boots – but since then I have been using it so so much. My skin hasn’t been the best recently and foundation hasn’t been adhering to it as nicely as it usually does, but this just smooths out my skin and combats any dryness, and with the MAC Strobe Cream it makes my ultimate primer combo for the month. It’s clear in consistency and a little silicony so I try not to use it on a daily basis, but it’s hard to resist when it just makes my skin so damn good under foundation. I usually apply it with my fingers too, so it’s easy to apply and there’s so much in that little bottle. Loves it.
MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Doublegleam (£24, buy here)
Now I have a lot of highlighters, right, but this might be a real contender for my favourite highlighter of all time. Now I know that’s a bold claim, but you honestly have got to try this. If you try one thing on this list, make sure it’s this because it is just so bloody beautiful that it makes me weak at the knees. It doesn’t look like much in the pan, not even that much when swatched, but when you put it on the cheeks it just gives you the most beautiful, healthy, radiant, natural but unnatural pop of highlight that I crave. In some lights it’s silver, in some it’s a very lowkey creamy beige colour, and I just want to wear it every single day for the rest of my life. I don’t think I can even put into words how much I love this, but I really love this, go and buy it right now, k thanks bye.
Nuxe Lip Balm Stick (£5.50 for 2, buy here)
Winter is the worst time of year for lips as everyone knows, and this is just brill – a simple, no fuss lip balm that smells and tastes amazing, and that really does the job. Not much to say apart from it’s just really bloody nice, and not too expensive in terms of getting a good one that’s a step above Vaseline or Carmex. A good handbag staple.
So that wraps up my January faves – a quick list of things I’ve really been loving and will continue to use for a good long while. If you have anything on this list and you love it too, or if you want to try or do end up trying one of these I would absolutely love to know, so please leave me a comment below! Thanks for reading, peace out!
